Textured popcorn ceilings scraped and old ceilings removed, with plastic protection and a clean, smooth start for new finishes.
Popcorn texture dates a room immediately, and old ceilings hide stains, cracks and sagging drywall. Taking them down changes the whole feel of a space. It is also messy, because scraped texture and fallen drywall fill the air with fine dust.
We cover floors, furniture and fixtures with plastic, seal vents and doors and scrape or remove the ceiling material in controlled passes. Where the ceiling is damaged beyond repair, we take it down to the joists. We clean thoroughly, so you are left with a smooth surface or open framing, ready for finishing, repairs or new lighting.
Popcorn texture applied before the 1980s can contain asbestos. If your home is older, test before scraping, and we can coordinate that testing with a qualified lab.
Light texture on sound drywall can often be scraped. Water-stained, sagging or cracked ceilings are better removed and replaced.
Plastic on the floor and walls and sealed vents keep texture and dust where they belong, which saves hours of cleanup afterward.
After scraping, the surface still needs skim coating, sanding and priming. We leave it ready for your finisher or painter.
