Rotted decks, porches and stairs taken apart carefully, with the house wall protected and lumber sorted for disposal or reuse.
A weathered deck can be dangerous long before it looks it. Rotten joists, loose rails and failing ledger boards cause real accidents. Removing a deck or porch safely means looking at how it is attached to the house and what is hidden beneath the boards.
We inspect the structure, shut off anything wired to it, such as lights or outlets, and take it apart in reverse order of construction. We detach the ledger carefully so siding and flashing are damaged as little as possible. Footings can be left or removed, and treated lumber is sorted and hauled properly. The area is raked and cleared for a new deck, a patio or a yard.
The board that attaches the deck to the house is the most delicate part to remove. We take it off carefully and tell you what siding and flashing repair is likely.
Concrete footings can stay for the next structure or be dug out. We agree on this with you and your builder in advance.
Pressure-treated wood should not be burned. We sort and haul it for proper disposal, and we reclaim lumber that is still sound.
Porch roofs, screens, stairs and rails come down in order, with the roof supported until it is released.
